Paris

The Eurostar took us on a swift journey from Waterloo Station in London, underneath the English Channel to Paris, where suddenly nobody had any idea what we were saying. The lack of common language made things quite a bit more difficult, and where we'd usually have spent twenty minutes per stop examining tube maps and asking for directions in London, it now took us at least an hour. There was also a great lack of fast food, public toilets and politeness. It seems the French aren't too big on manners, or the English, or both.
We did quite a bit of touristy stuff in Paris, one of them being the Sacre-Coeur Church:
And of course Notre Dame, where Sal and Meg pretended (very convincingly) to be hunchbacks.
Even at some of the world's greatest sights, there was always time for a spot of sudoku.
Just a short walk from the Sacre Coeur, was the vibrant area of Montmartre, where we were approached by many portrait and caricature artists. It seems they have grown bored of drawing the subject at hand though, as the results were pretty random. Do you know who these people are ?
And of course, who could resist visiting the Louvre, home to many of the world's most famous paintings and sculptures.
Unfortunately there wasn't much photography allowed inside the Louvre for some reason. I did manage to sneak a shot of this one though... She's alot smaller than I expected, and from what I can gather, a bit of a moaner.
And what better way to finish of a long day's sight-seeing, than a quiet nap outside the Louvre.
Matt and I were catching up on a bit of sleep the day the others went past the Eiffel Tower, but I did see it from a distance, and I expect it would've looked very similar up close and personal, except maybe a bit bigger. Other than that, I enjoyed a good Carbanara, croissants and triple-expressos for breakfast every morning and another good dose of walking about an interesting and historically significant City. And now it's time to go back to the familiarity of home and Durban. I have to say; It's been GREAT.
